About Rummagio
What is Rummagio?
Rummagio is a home storage app. You list the boxes in your garage, loft, shed or anywhere else, write down what's in each one, and stick a QR label on the front. Then you can search for anything and see exactly which box it's in and where that box sits.
Is it free?
Yes. Rummagio is free to use right now, with no card needed. A Pro version with extras like household sharing is coming later, and the free version isn't going away.
Do I need to download an app?
No. Rummagio works in the web browser on any phone, tablet or computer. You can add it to your home screen so it opens with one tap, just like an app.
How do the QR labels work?
Each box has its own label with a QR code, the box number, its name, the room and where it sits. Print it on A4 sticker paper (or plain paper and clear tape), stick it on the box, and point your phone camera at it. The box opens in Rummagio, showing everything inside.
Do I need to reprint a label when I change what's in a box?
No. The label just points to the box, so you can add, move or take out things as often as you like and the label stays the same.
Does it work in a garage or loft with no signal?
Yes. Rummagio keeps a copy of your list on your phone, so you can look things up and make changes with no signal. It saves them as soon as you're back online.
Can I use it on more than one phone or computer?
Yes. Sign in with the same email on each one and you'll see the same boxes. If two of them change things at the same time, even with no signal, Rummagio puts both sets of changes together when they're back online.
Can I keep track of things I've lent out?
Yes. Mark any thing as lent and type who has it. Search will then say "Lent to Mike", and History shows when it went. You can also mark things as taken out, sold or binned, even just some of them, like 10 of your 50 screws.
Can I bring in a list I already have?
Yes. Rummagio can read Excel and CSV files. It matches up your columns, shows you what it found, and adds your boxes and things in one go. You can download a copy of your own list at any time too.
Can I add photos?
Yes. Add a photo of any thing from your camera or your photos, so you know exactly which one it is. Photos are kept privately and only you can see them.
Is my information private?
Yes. Only you can see your boxes and photos. Everything is stored securely in London, and we never sell your information or share it for advertising.
Is it easy enough for my mum or dad?
That's exactly who it was built for. Big buttons, plain English, a step-by-step guide the first time, a help button on every screen, and Undo for anything removed by mistake.
How do I sign in?
There's no password to remember. Type your email and we send you a 6-digit code. Type it in and you're in, on any device.
Who makes it?
Rummagio is made in the UK by Joshua Griffin. It started as a way to help his dad find things in the garage.
What can I keep track of?
Anything that lives in a box: tools, Christmas decorations, camping gear, paperwork, toys, crafts, cables, spare parts. Rummagio is built around numbered boxes, so you always know which box to pull out.
How many boxes can I add?
As many as you like. There's no limit on rooms, boxes or things while Rummagio is free in early access.
Will it always be free?
Rummagio is free while it's in early access. A Pro version with extras like household sharing and more than one home is planned. If that changes what's free, you'll be told well in advance, and early users will be looked after.
What will Pro have?
Pro is planned to add sharing with your household, more than one home or storage unit, and more. You can join the waiting list from the Menu once you've signed up.
Can I use it for more than one house?
For now, add each place as its own room, like "Mum's garage" or "Caravan". Proper support for more than one home or storage unit is planned for Pro.
Is it good for moving house?
Yes, it's ideal. Number every box as you pack and list what's in it. When you unpack, search for anything and you'll know which box to open first.
Can I use it for a storage unit?
Yes. Add your storage unit as a room, and you'll know what's in it without driving over to look.
Can I use it for my business?
Rummagio is made for homes, but it works well for small jobs like an office cupboard, a van or a market stall's stock. It isn't a full stock system for a business.
Which phones and computers does it work on?
Any phone, tablet or computer with an up-to-date web browser, like Safari, Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Brave. You can add it to your home screen so it opens like an app.
Is it in the App Store or Google Play?
Not yet. For now it works in your web browser, and you can add it to your home screen so it opens with one tap. A proper app is planned.
Do I need a printer for the labels?
A printer is best, but you don't need one. You can write the box code, like G-01, on the box in big letters instead. Search for the code to open the box.
Can I buy printed labels?
Printed label packs are coming soon: tough, waterproof stickers, each with its own QR code. For now, print your own at home.
What happens if Rummagio closes down?
You can download a copy of your whole list as a spreadsheet at any time, from the Menu. If Rummagio ever closed, you'd be told well in advance so you can keep your list.
How do I sign up?
Tap "Get started free" and type your email address. We'll email you a 6-digit code. Type it in, answer a couple of quick questions, and you're ready to add your first box.
Do I need a password?
No. Every time you sign in, we email you a 6-digit code instead. There's nothing to remember or forget.
Can I see it before I sign up?
Yes. Scroll through this page to see the real app, or read the how-to guides. Once you've signed up, "Show me an example" fills in a garage, loft and shed so you can try everything.
How do I contact you?
Email hello@rummagio.com. Joshua reads every message.
How do I delete my account?
Tap Menu, then “Remove my account”, under Your account. It removes your account and everything in it straight away. You can download a copy of your list first.
Can I change my email address?
Yes. Tap Menu, then Change next to your email address. We send a link to the old and new addresses to make sure they're both yours.
Is my list backed up?
Yes. Everything is backed up once a day and each backup is kept for 30 days, locked so nobody else can read them. You can also download your own copy from the Menu at any time.
Can I print on label sheets?
Yes. Print on plain paper or A4 sticker paper and cut them out, or straight onto Avery label sheets like L7165 (8 per sheet). There are box sheets too: an A4 list to tick off as you pack, with the label at the bottom.
Does it help with moving house?
Yes. Turn on Moving house and each box can say which room it goes to in your new home, shown big on its label. Box sheets help you plan and pack each box too.
Do you use cookies?
No advertising or tracking cookies. We count visits to the website without cookies, and count which features get used, but never what's in your boxes or what you search for. Rummagio only keeps what it needs on your device: that you're signed in, a copy of your list for when there's no signal, and whether you picked light or dark.
Where is my information kept?
Your account, list and photos are kept securely by Supabase in London. Only you can see your boxes and photos.
Will you send me lots of emails?
No. You get one email about your account when you sign up. After that, only if you tick the box: a few tips in your first ten days, then the odd bit of news. You can turn them off any time.
Is it accessible?
Rummagio uses big buttons, large clear text and plain English, and works with screen readers. If your phone is set to bigger text or less motion, Rummagio follows it.
Does it work in dark mode?
Yes. It matches your phone by default. You can also pick Light or Dark: on the website with the switch at the bottom, and in the app under Menu, then Appearance.
Can I support Rummagio?
Thank you! If it's helped you, you can buy Joshua a coffee. Telling a friend helps just as much.

Can I add a thing without opening a box first?
Yes. Tap “+ Add a thing” on the home page, type what it is, and pick which box it's going in.
Can I add lots of things at once?
Yes. Type them with commas between, like: drill, hammer, 2 x saw. Each one is added separately, and “2 x saw” is added as 2 saws.
How do I change how many I've got?
Tap the thing, then use the − and + buttons under “How many?”, or type a number. Tap Save.
How do I add a photo of something?
Tap the thing, then tap “Add a photo”. You can take one with your camera or pick one you already have. Tap Save.
How do I find something?
Type what you're looking for in the search bar at the top. It shows which box it's in and where that box sits. Small spelling mistakes are fine.
How do I move a thing to another box?
Tap the thing, then choose the new box under “Which box is it in?” and tap Save.
How do I mark something as lent, sold or binned?
Tap the thing and pick an option under “Where is it now?”. If you lent it, type who has it. Search will then say, for example, “Lent to Mike”.
Can I lend just some of something?
Yes. Tap the thing, pick where it is now (like Lent to someone), and a “How many?” box appears. Choose how many, tap Save, and it splits into two lines, like “Screws × 40” in the box and “Screws × 10, Lent to Mike”. When they come back, mark them “In the box” and they join up again.
Where are the things I've sold or binned?
Open the box and look at the bottom, under “sold or binned”. Tap one to put it back in the box if you need to.
How do I change a box's name, place or colour?
Open the box and tap “Change name, place or colour”.
How do I delete a box?
Open the box and tap “Delete this box” at the bottom. If there are things in it, you can move them to another box first.
How do I change to dark or light?
Open the Menu and tap Appearance. Flick the light switch, or choose Light, Dark, or Match my phone.
I removed something by mistake
Tap “Undo” on the message at the bottom of the screen straight away. It stays for about 9 seconds.
How do I add another room?
Tap “+ Add a room” at the top, then pick one like Loft or Shed, or type your own.
What do the box codes mean?
Each box gets a code from its room, like G-01 for the first box in the Garage. If two rooms start with the same letter, the second one uses two letters, like SR for Spare Room. You can change a room's letters by opening it and tapping “Change room”.
How do I rename or remove a room?
Open the room and tap “Change room” next to its name. You can rename it there, or remove it. If it has boxes in, you can move them to another room first.
How do I print a label?
Open the box and tap “Print this label”, or tap “Print all labels” on the home page for a whole room. Choose plain or A4 sticker paper, or a sheet of Avery labels, and print at actual size (100%).
Can I print on Avery label sheets?
Yes. When you print, choose your sheet: L7165 (8 per sheet) is the most popular, and there are others under “Other label sheet sizes”. If some labels on the sheet are used already, pick which one to start at.
What's a box sheet?
An A4 page for one box: a list of what's going in it with tick boxes and spare lines, and the box's label at the bottom to cut off and stick on. Open a box and tap “Print box sheet”. Handy for packing, or for planning boxes before you fill them.
How do I use Rummagio for moving house?
Tap Menu, then Moving house, and turn it on. Each box can then say which room it goes to in your new home, shown big on its label and box sheet. Turn it off once you've moved in.
Why is Rummagio asking if something's come back?
When something's been lent for 2 weeks, a card on the home page asks if it's back. Tap “It's back” to put it back in its box, or “Still with” them and we'll ask again in 2 weeks.
How do I stop the Christmas reminders?
Tap “Don't show Christmas reminders” on the card. To turn them back on, open the Menu and look under Your account.
Why does it say I've also got one?
When you add something you've already got in another box, a note shows where the other one is, so you don't end up with three spirit levels. Tap it to open that box. It's only a note: what you added is still added.
How do I change my email address?
Tap Menu, then Change next to your email under Your account. Type the new address and tap the link we send to both addresses.
How do I remove my account?
Tap Menu, then “Remove my account” at the bottom. It removes your account and everything in it, and can't be undone, so download a copy of your list first if you'd like one.
What should I print labels on?
A4 full-sheet sticker paper works best. Plain paper and clear tape is fine too. Set your printer to actual size (100%) so the QR code scans properly.
How do I scan a label?

Yes. Tap Menu at the top, then “Bring in a list from Excel”, and choose your file. You can check the columns before anything is added.
Can I download my list?
Yes. Tap Menu at the top, then “Download a copy of my list” near the bottom, under Your account. It's a plain spreadsheet of your rooms, boxes and things.
Does it save automatically?
Yes. Everything saves by itself. You'll see “All saved” at the top. If your signal drops, it keeps your changes on your phone and saves them when you're back online.
Does it work without signal?
Yes. You can look things up and make changes with no signal. They save as soon as you're back online.
How do I use it on another phone or computer?
Open Rummagio on the other device and choose “I already have an account”. Type the same email and enter the code we send you.
I didn't get the email with my code
It can take a minute. Check your junk or spam folder. If it still hasn't come, tap “Send it again”. If you've asked for a few in a row, wait a few minutes first.
How do I put Rummagio on my home screen?
On iPhone: open it in Safari, tap the Share button (the square with an arrow), then “Add to Home Screen”. Using Brave or Chrome on iPhone? If you can't see that option, open it in Safari instead. On Android: tap the three dots in Chrome, then “Add to Home screen” or “Install app”.

Can I see what's been changed?
Yes. Tap Menu at the top, then History. It lists what's been added, moved, lent or removed, newest first, with who did it and when. Type in the search box at the top, like “drill”, to see just that. Each thing also shows its own history when you tap it.
Can I see an example?
Yes. Tap Menu at the top, then “Try the example”. It shows a garage, loft, shed and more, all filled in. Nothing you change there is saved, and “Back to my boxes” takes you back.
How do I change my name?
Tap Menu at the top, then “Change” next to your name. It shows on your rooms, like “Joshua's Garage”.
Where are the how-to guides?
Tap Menu at the top, then How-to guides. Each one goes step by step, with pictures.

Thank you! Rummagio is free to use. If it's helped you, you can buy Joshua a coffee. It helps keep Rummagio going. You'll find it in the Menu too.
Who made Rummagio?
Joshua Griffin built it for his dad, who had a garage full of boxes and no idea what was in them. You can read the full story in the Menu, under Our story.
How do I take a thing off the list?
Tap the thing, then tap “Remove from the list” at the bottom. Removed the wrong one? Tap Undo on the message straight away.
How do I rename a thing?
Tap the thing, change its name at the top, then tap Save.

How do I remove a photo?
Tap the thing, then tap “Remove photo”, or “Change photo” to take a new one. Tap Save.
Can a thing have more than one photo?
Each thing has one photo. If you need more, add the thing twice, like “Tent” and “Tent poles”.
My photo didn't save
Photos need an internet connection to save. Try again when you've got a signal. Your list itself still saves with no signal.
What's the difference between taken out and lent?
Taken out means you've got it out yourself, like the tree stand at Christmas. Lent means someone else has it, and you can type who. Both show in search, so you always know where it is.
How do I put something back in the box?
Tap the thing and choose “In the box” under “Where is it now?”, then Save. If you'd split it, like 10 screws lent, it joins the rest again.
How do I see everything someone has borrowed?
Type their name in the search bar, like “Dave”. It shows everything lent to them.
Is there a limit to how many things go in a box?
No. Add as many as you like.
How do I move a box to another room?
Open the box, tap “Change name, place or colour”, pick the new room under “Which room?”, then Save. It gets a new code for that room.
What does see-through mean?
It's for clear plastic boxes. Pick the checked circle when choosing a colour and the box shows as see-through.
Can I pick any colour for a box?
Yes. When adding or changing a box, tap the rainbow circle at the end of the colours to pick any colour you like.
Can I search for a box number?
Yes. Type the code, like G-01, in the search bar and the box comes up.
How do I get rid of the example?
Tap “Remove the example and start my own” at the top of the home page. Any rooms you had before come back.
My label won't scan
Check it was printed at actual size (100%), that it's flat and in good light, and that your camera lens is clean. Hold the phone a hand's width away. If it still won't, type the box code, like G-01, in the search bar.
Scanning a label asks me to sign in
That phone isn't signed in yet. Sign in with the same email you use for Rummagio, and the box opens straight after.
Can I print all my labels at once?
Yes. On the home page, under a room's boxes, tap “Print all” for that room. Each label prints at the right size.
Do I need to reprint a label if I change the box?
Not for the things inside, they can change as often as you like. If you rename the box or move it to another room, print a fresh label so the writing on it matches.
I don't have a printer
No problem. Write the box code, like G-01, on the box in big letters. Type that code in the search bar to open the box.
Search can't find something
Try a shorter word, like “drill” instead of “cordless drill”. Search looks at things, notes, who has them, box names, rooms and where boxes sit. Small spelling mistakes are fine.
Does search understand other words for things?
For common ones, yes. “Xmas” finds Christmas, “hoover” finds vacuum and “telly” finds TV.
It says Not saved yet
That means there's no signal at the moment. Your changes are kept on your phone and saved as soon as you're back online. You don't need to do anything.
I can't see changes from my other phone
Close Rummagio and open it again, or switch away and back. It fetches the latest each time it comes back on screen. If both phones changed things, both sets of changes are kept.
Can two people use it at once?
Yes, if you both sign in with the same email. Changes from both are put together. Proper household sharing, with your own sign-ins, is coming in Pro.
My sign-in link says it has expired
Each link and code works once and only for a while. Type your email again and we'll send a fresh code.
My code doesn't work
Use the newest email if you asked for more than one, as older codes stop working. Type just the 6 numbers. Still stuck? Tap “Send it again”.
How do I get back to all my boxes?
Tap “All boxes” at the top left of a box, or the X on any pop-up.
Where's the help button?
It's the blue Help button at the bottom right of the screen. You're using it now!
Can I make the writing bigger?
Rummagio follows your phone's text size. On iPhone go to Settings, Display and Brightness, Text Size. On Android go to Settings, Display, Font size.
Can I bring in a list from Google Sheets?
Yes. In Google Sheets, choose File, Download, then Microsoft Excel or CSV. Then bring that file in from the Menu.
My Excel file won't come in
Files must be under 5MB. Save just your list as a new file and try again. Make sure there's a column for the thing, and ideally one for the box. You can check the columns before anything is added.
Is there anything hidden in Rummagio?
Some say there's a box for things nobody's claimed. Try typing “rummage”.
Show me how it works
No problem. I'll walk you through it step by step.
Stop rummaging. Start finding.
Set up your first box in under a minute. It's free, and there's no password to remember.
